After industrial revolution; mechanization, advancing insdustrial production and changing social structure caused changes at the system at which the humanity had lived for thousands of years. In the process of machines' being used for solving technical problems and production, thousands of people were responsible for using these machines, and operated them. With the advancing technology, it was observed that machines hadn't been used properly by humans, and special changes were made at the design of the machines. For the first time in 1899, the topic of how to improve the performance of operators which send telegrams with Morse Code was discussed. In the following years, World War II was an important stage. The very rapid development of the technology during the war provided important technical advantages for pilots and soldiers, however it was observed that the success rate for hitting the target hadn't increased, and even decreased at some cases. Human Machine Interaction came into question in these years, and it was understood that the performances of technical systems hadn't only depended on tecnical skills; the performances of operators were also a determinative factor.

Softwares which had been created with machine code at the early years, then were supported with "programming languages" to make them "programmable by humans". It was switched from being put to work alongside the system by operator manually after the program had been written and loaded in bands or cards, to the systems which are "interactive" and "multi-user". The era in which only programmers originally had able to use the computers was over, and two types of computer users, "end user" and "programmer", showed up. At the programmer's side, features which increase the quality and ease the software development, like high level programming languages, language structure prone to reusability, embedded development environment and object oriented programming came up. As for the end-user side, easy usability, efficiency and user satisfaction were the decisive things. Today, a lot of problems are solvable with products produced by different producers, therefore customer preferences are determined by secondary factors.
Human Computer Interaction (HCI) is a field which studies by aiming the human factor at the stages of designing, considering and application of interactive computer systems.
It is not for nothing that it is popular in information sector and gained quite a bit importance in the last ten years. According to the researches, half of the source codes at software developing is written for the interface which provides user interaction. Again, according to another research, seventy percent of revisions and checkouts are because of usability problems; in other words, user interactions. The mistakes made in the sector are repeated for years, but there is no development because of not approaching the problem professionally, not paying attention to the principles of human computer interaction. It is observed that institutional softwares which become complicated more and more cause problmes like loss of labor work, low user performance, tiredness and unhappiness and erroneous mistakes, and these problems can reach to serious extents, and they are mostly referred or resolved as "user errors".
Academic and professional staff who had studied on Human Machine Interaction for many years, decided that this topic should seriously be discussed at institutional extents, and organized as a team.
